Soniqo vs
Mood Media.

Mood Media is the biggest company in this business, with the Muzak lineage behind it and coverage in more than 140 countries. If you are a chain rolling out four hundred sites and need one contract, one invoice and one throat to choke, they are the sensible answer and we are not. This page is about the other case: a small number of rooms where the music is part of the price on the menu.

Where they win

Scale. Global rollouts, one procurement process, digital signage and scent in the same contract, and a support desk that exists in every timezone.

Where the fit breaks

A programme built for a brand across many sites is not a programme built for one room. And enterprise contracts move at enterprise speed.

The line we draw

Dozens of identical sites — theirs. A handful of rooms that each need to feel like themselves — ours.

What you actually buy

Mood Media

A managed music service, typically on a term contract, delivered through their player or their app, often bundled with signage, messaging or scent.

Soniqo

A programmed sound system for the rooms you have, month to month, with the licensing layer included and nothing else bundled in.

Who the programme is for

Mood Media

Brand-level. A programme is designed for the concept and deployed across the estate, which is exactly right when consistency across sites is the goal.

Soniqo

Room-level. The terrace and the dining room are different programmes because they are different rooms, even inside one property.

Licensing scope

Mood Media

Their published licensing covers Mood-supplied content, at the specific address on the contract, and does not extend to music from other sources.

Soniqo

Covers what we supply too — plus the Gulf-specific layer: PRO/PPL exposure and the UAE venue licence that comes into force on 1 December 2026.

Sequencing

Mood Media

Scheduled playlists with clean transitions, tuned to a brand brief.

Soniqo

Key- and energy-ordered sets with DJ-mixed transitions — the room is built to lift and settle across the evening, not just to change playlist at 7pm.

Changing something

Mood Media

Through the account structure — a request, a ticket, a scheduled change. Reliable, documented, and rarely same-day.

Soniqo

A WhatsApp message to the person who built the programme. Most changes land the same day, some within the hour.

Commitment

Mood Media

Term contracts are the norm, frequently multi-year, and often tied to hardware supplied with the service.

Soniqo

Monthly. If the room stops sounding right and we cannot fix it, you should be able to leave.

Hardware

Mood Media

Their own player, or their app on a device you provide — both well supported, with proper field service behind them.

Soniqo

Whatever is already in the rack. We have taken over Denon decks, existing amps and venue laptops rather than shipping a box.

Local behaviour

Mood Media

Regional programming exists, and they operate across the Middle East.

Soniqo

Prayer-time ducking to the minute, Ramadan programming, and a dinner boundary that follows the day's actual sunset — because we run these rooms ourselves.

Who answers the phone

Mood Media

A support organisation, with the escalation paths a support organisation has.

Soniqo

The person who programmed your venue. There is no tier two.

Common questionsMood Media vs Soniqo

Mood Media is far bigger. Why would I take the smaller supplier?

For a two-hundred-site rollout you should not — their scale is real and we would lose that comparison honestly. The trade runs the other way for a handful of premium rooms: what you gain is that the person choosing your music has stood in the room at 11pm, and what you give up is the comfort of a global vendor's procurement paperwork.

Can you take over an existing Mood Media installation?

Usually yes, on the audio side — the amplifiers, speakers and zone wiring stay exactly as they are, and often the player hardware too. Check your contract first: term commitments and hardware supplied under the agreement are the two things that decide the timing.

Does Mood Media's licence cover me in the UAE?

It covers the content they supply, at the address on your contract. It is not a substitute for the venue licence the UAE regime requires from 1 December 2026, and it does not extend to music you play from anywhere else — a phone plugged in for a private event included. Read the scope in your own agreement rather than assuming it is broader than it is.

We already use them for signage and messaging.

Then splitting the contract may not be worth it, and we would rather say that than sell you something. If music is the part that is not working, run us on one zone alongside and decide from what you hear.

One zone, no contract

Put us on the terrace.
Leave the rest as it is.

The cheapest way to compare is not a tender. Give us one zone for a month, keep everything else running, and let the room tell you which programme it prefers.
